The Star Transfermatic Double Spindle Brake Drum Lathe, Model 53-DS, was designed specifically for buses, heavy duty trucks and trailers and airplane wheels.  Drums are bored on one spindle and mating linings are turned on the other by means of the exclusive Transfermatic method.  The drum turning arbor is of 2-1/2" diameter alloy steel, easily capable of handling the modern, heavy dual drums with tires mounted.  Boring bars are also 2-1/2" in diameter insuring clean, heavy cuts free of vibration.  Using the latest design and practice with carbide cutting tools, you will get a free cut and smooth finish in the drum -- a procedure that has been proven to be the best through millions of miles of testing.  The Transfermatic incorporates many of the fine features and precision manufacturing that have earned an outstanding reputation for Star as a builder of the hightest quality machinery for the automotive, truck, bus and aircraft industries.

  • The Transfermatic machine can reface a drum 16" deep with a maximum diameter of 24" with one continuous cut.  If necessary, the stroke can be increased to 24" and the depth to 30" by a simple design modification.
  • The speed selector allows an infinite adjustment from the lowest to the highest RPM -- standard is from 20 RPM to 90 RPM.  The speed can be changed in a matter of seconds.
  • Feeds available are .003", .005", .010" and .018" per revolution. 
  • The Transfermatic machine provides a means of boring the drum and simultaneously turning the lining to the exact diameter of the newly refaced drum.  This method is now standard practice by the largest fleets of bus operators in the U.S.  The method has been proven with billions of miles of use.
