Here is the big-capacity, high-production drum lathe designed for fleet maintenance, jobber machine shops and truck stops.  The Star Model 1960 Fleet-Master Lathe boasts all the features needed for high-volume, continuous-duty operation, yet is low in cost.  It will turn passenger car drums with great speed for take the husky cut necessary for truck drums.  With the Fleet-Master, you can either true used drums or take advantage of savings possible by buying new, unfinished drums and finishing them yourself. The Fleet-Master will handle drums from 6" to 42" in diameter and up to 12" depth.  Exclusive mechanical feed selector allows instant selection of any speed form zero to rapid traverse with feed reversible through the full speed range.  Five types of bearings are used to match bearing to need. Spindle speed selector provides infinite speed range from 30 to 150 rpm.  Speed may be changed instantly while lathe is running Arbors are hardened and ground for extreme accuracy in centering brake drums Heavy fabricated steel and cast iron base gives stable chatter-free support to drum lathe, houses heavy 1-1/2 HP motor.  Base can be bolted to the floor. Large dovetail ways on carriage and cross slide are hand-scraped by craftsmen to assure a smooth taper-free cut.  Hardened and ground gibs insure lasting accuracy.  Cross Slide Lock assures rigidity. Automatic switch stops lathe when cut is finished.  Thermal-overload auxiliary switch prevents burn-out.  Features like these allow efficient and safe unattended operation. Graphited bronze bearings provide over 40 sq. in. of bearing support on rugged 3" O.D. spindle.  Bearing surfaces are ground for close bearing tolerance and minimum wear.  Built-in lube reservoir plus graphite provide positive lubrication at all times. Timken bearings, cast aluminum-bronze worm gear and stress-proof steel worm all operate in oil bath in sealed gear case with oil level indicator at front of machine.
